MYCELIUM
The piece "Mycelium" was premiered during the Videomapping festival in Lille in 2023.
Mycelium is the vegetative part of a fungus, consisting of a mass of branching, thread-like hyphae. Mycelium is the underground network of threads that connects the different parts of a fungus, and it is responsible for absorbing nutrients and water from the soil. Mycelium acts as a natural decomposer, breaking down dead plant material and returning it to the soil. This helps to recycle nutrients and maintain soil health, which is vital for the growth of plants and other organisms.
Mycelium also forms symbiotic relationships with many plants, known as mycorrhizae, which helps plants absorb nutrients and water more efficiently. This relationship is essential for the survival of many plant species, particularly in harsh environments.
The mycelium network is a hidden system, much like the intricate web of relationships that exist within an ecosystem. It is a reminder that even the smallest organisms play a critical role in maintaining balance and harmony in our world.
