Benthic Flora is a series of artworks of an ongoing exploration of our interpretation of imaginary artificial botany.

The term ‘Benthos’, coined by Ernst Haeckel, means ‘depth of the sea’ from the Greek noun βένθος. Deep-sea is a repository of fascinating mysteries full of new species to discover where more than 80% of the ocean still remains unexplored. Scientists have been creating synthetic creatures that imitate nature to investigate the unknown. In this sense, we can say that nature is already coexisting with a synthetic world created by humans.

Inspired by these undiscovered possibilities, Benthic Flora presents the imagination situated between nature and humans.
